Transportation & Infrastructure

Traffic Jam
Look Familiar?

One of the major components to economic growth is having an adequate transportation infrastructure.

Unfortunately, Union County has been grossly underfunded for years. While some would argue that it is due to inadequate representation in Raleigh and Washington, I submit that it doesn’t matter how the ox got in the ditch—let’s get him out.

We cannot do this by ourselves. We are going to need our neighbors.

MUMPO (Mecklenburg-Union Metropolitan Planning Organization) is made-up of Charlotte, Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Indian Trail, Matthews, Mecklenburg County, Mint Hill, Monroe, NCDOT, Pineville, Stallings, Union County, Waxhaw, Weddington, Wesley Chapel and Wingate. Without going into a tremendous amount of detail (for more info visit: http://www.mumpo.org), each municipality gets a vote.

What I propose is a Transportation Committee made up from a representative from each of our immediate neighbors to speak in a united voice championing our mutual projects and addressing our concerns. Then promote those issues through MUMPO, our state and federal representatives, and then report back to our individual councils. Those reports will then be posted publicly to keep the citizens informed; it is the responsibility of all of us to hold our local, state and federal representatives accountable.
